Dawn Falls

Metasequoia glyptostroboides, (deciduous dawn redwoods), were found as fossils in Germany, until their rediscovery in two small areas in the mountains of China in the 1940's.  Saved from the edge of extinction, now a wonderful cultivated conifer I've used at a six foot waterfall called 'Dawn Falls'.

At the break of dawn, when the pinks and reds of the Cascade sunrise peek down on Dawn Falls, the dawn redwoods flanking both sides of the waterfall glow a pink tinted gold in mid October.  These mornings are just breath taking.

Sequoia sempervirens, (coast redwoods), fill the upper draw of the falls, some day to be the giants of the hill.  Bridal wreath spirea fill the throat of this small seasonal stream like a billowing torrent of white water in the  spring run off.  Red 'Lucifer' crocosmia, arching from the right mid flank like British gunners, humming birds and their buzzing whorls their projectiles.  Rhododendrons add the body of mixed bright colors through out this area.

This sounds so busy I think I'd better build a bench.
